Gov. Jim Gilmore Eats Into Democrat Base

Bill Hobbs the current Communications Director for the Tennessee Republican Party, has a good write up here on our former Governor. There's a couple of tidbits of information I didn't know such as Gov. Gilmore is on the Board of Directors for the NRA. With any luck we get 'Motor City Madman' Ted Nugent to Virginia for some politiking... Like the Shad Planking maybe?
Hobbs points out some facts here that make is pretty clear why Gov. Gilmore has been the most successful candidate to attract voters from Virginian's with African Heritage:

"Gilmore proposed and signed into law Virginia's first stand-alone Martin Luther King Holiday. Gilmore and his wife hosted a historic reception in the Governor's Mansion for Coretta Scott King and announced a technology partnership between Virginia and the King Center for Nonviolence. He also proposed and funded a new African-American History Trail in Virginia and called upon the State Board of Education to include a more diverse range of historical figures in Virginia's Social Studies curriculum. Test scores during Gilmore's term showed a narrowing of the "achievement gap" between minority and white students. Gilmore also significantly increased funding for Virginia's two historic black universities, Norfolk State University and Virginia State University."

Little wonder why Gov. Warner is desperate to get a 'macaca moment' Gov. Gilmore at the RPV Advance.... he's going to need it going up against a candidate that will be eating into his base.

Welcome, Contemporary Conservative!

And then there were nine.... Jody at The Contemporary Conservative joined Bloggers 4 Jim Gilmore today. Jody joined ...
... to support former Governor Gilmore in his bid to retain the Senate seat being vacated by Senator Warner. Bloggers 4 Gilmore is a collection of the most influential and accomplished political minds in Virginia and like these bloggers, Jim Gilmore, is the voice of our times and for our times.

As a fiscal Conservative, Jim Gilmore’s record on taxes and common sense spending is a big reason why the Contemporary Conservative endorses his run for Senate. While Governor, Jim Gilmore cut 16 different taxes totaling $1.5 billion and championed effective spending by our state legislature over the course of his governorship and will bring this same fiscal responsibility to the Senate.

Jim Gilmore will be an instant influence on Washington and will bring some direction to an obviously chaotic time in Congress with real solutions for real issues that are facing our country and state.
We welcome the Contemporary Conservative to our growing group working to elect Jim Gilmore as our next U.S. Senator of Virginia.

Campaign Promises

I proudly support Jim Gilmore for the Senate! There are many reasons I support Jim Gilmore over Mark Warner. I will be posting often comparing Gilmore's record to Warner. Since both candidates are former governors, looking at their records is a good place to start. Campaign promises mean a lot to me. When Jim Gilmore ran for governor he promised 4000 new teachers, lower college tuition, tax relief...He performed:

As Governor, Gilmore kept his campaign promises in both areas including hiring 4000 new teachers to reduce class sizes, reducing college tuition, implementing stronger educational standards, and for the first time ensuring all lottery profits went to education.
He also signed into law five different tax cuts for Virginians totaling $1.5 billion. Time and again, Gilmore stood his ground against those who wanted to raise revenue by increasing taxes. In doing so he earned the admiration of Virginia citizens and three times was awarded the “Friend of the Taxpayer Award” by Americans for Tax Reform. Looking to the future of the state’s economy, Gilmore created the nation’s first cabinet level Department of Technology launching Virginia into the Technology Age as “the Digital Dominion.”(

A solid record indeed. His opponent Mark Warner also made some promises.

"I will not raise taxes." - Candidate Mark Warner, October 10, 2001.

What I believe the people of Virginia want is they want people who are going to keep their promises.” - Governor Mark Warner, March 25, 2003.

"Warner Opens Session With Call to Raise Taxes" - Frontpage Article Headline, Washington Post, January 15, 2004.

We all know what happened next. The largest tax increase in Virginia history. Looking at the past campaign promises made and the actual record of promises kept, my vote goes to Jim Gilmore. His conservative leadership is needed more than ever in Washington DC. I encourage to check out Gilmore for Senate. They have a first rate media operation already in place so sign up and support Jim Gilmore for Senate. Let Mark Warner know that lying about raising taxes will not be accepted.

I am supporting Jim Gilmore for Senate

When considering candidates for the senate, I wanted a fighter. One who has a unifying attitude and one that will work hard to get there and work hard after he does.

Jim Gilmore has presented that attitude and more.

Instead of sitting around and participating in a "pity party" and "blame game" within the Republican Party, Jim Gilmore has fought to keep his and Virginia's conservative roots firmly planted on the ground.

Jim Gilmore will fight for this senate seat and will fight for Virginia once he wins and is in Washington.

Mason Conservative Stands With Jim Gilmore

I have been graciously asked to join this website to help elect Jim Gilmore to the US Senate and I am proud to do so. Many who read my blog regularly do know that I was not sold on the candidacy of Gov. Gilmore, and I think many felt the same way I do. But I also understand how harmful the circular firing squad can be. In an uphill battle like this, we must rally around our man and help push him across the finish line. I am proud to now stand shoulder to shoulder with these bloggers here and with Jim Gilmore. Here are the two overirding reasons that has made up my mind:

1) Honesty. Jim Gilmore is the last Virginia governor to follow through as governor what he campaigned on as a candidate. He told Virginians that he stood against taxes and signed numerous tax cuts as governor. He fought hard for fiscal restraint and balanced budgets, a refreshing change from both Democrats and Republicans in the US Senate. His opponent will continue in his own tradition of raising taxes needlessly while spending spirals out of control.

2) He Fights. This more than anything else gets me excited about Jim Gilmore. Since 2005 Republicans have sat around arguing what is wrong with us. I see this here every day in Northern Virginia. We look to blame an opposing wing of the party, a region, a candidate, Iraq, or George W. Bush. In doing so we have lost our vigor and our concentration. From every speech I've heard the Governor give since he's announced, he plans to not only unify the party but also concentrate his fight on the right target, Mark Warner and the Democrat record, and not on fellow Republicans. Its hard to spend weekends knocking on doors or making phone calls for a candidate who isn't putting in the same effort as your are. Gilmore understands this race will be won by appealling the Virginia's conservative heritage and attacking the Democrat record nationally.

In 2005 I felt Jerry Kilgore took his victory for granted and was caught like a deer in headlights when things went sour and he didn't know what to do. George Allen was so busy running for president he took his own reelection for granted, then got caught on tape saying something he shouldn't have and decided to declare war on the media rather than apologize. With Jim Gilmore, I see a candidate who fully understands what he is up against and will do everything he can to win, and win on a conservaitve platform that will unite Republicans and give Democrats a fight they don't even see coming. I look forward to not only posting here but on my blog and help people understand why Jim Gilmore must be our next senator, for the sake of our country, our commonwealth, and our party.

Kilo Sparks It Up For Gov. Gilmore!

Southwest Virginia blogger Carl Kilo endorses Gov. Gilmore:

"When Jim Gilmore ran for governor he promised 4000 new teachers, lower college tuition, tax relief...He performed":

"As Governor, Gilmore kept his campaign promises in both areas including hiring 4000 new teachers to reduce class sizes, reducing college tuition, implementing stronger educational standards, and for the first time ensuring all lottery profits went to education. Looking to the future of the state’s economy, Gilmore created the nation’s first cabinet level Department of Technology launching Virginia into the Technology Age as “the Digital Dominion.”(LINK)"
and that folks in a nutshell is promises made, promises met.

I am proudly supporting Jim Gilmore for U.S. Senate

All the hype has been that Mark Warner is going to walk away with the U.S. Senate seat next year. Why are people so easily dismissing Jim Gilmore?

Everything I know about the man proves him to be a fighter. He sets a goal ... and he does not give up until he achieves that goal. He has the extensive experience necessary to represent the Commonwealth well as our U.S. Senator.

Mason Conservative posted 10 questions he would like to hear answered by Mark Warner and concluded:
So before all the silliness and cheap tricks, I would LOVE to see Mark Warner, before next fall, answer any of these questions in detail. Its clear Jim Gilmore is ready to talk about every single one of these issues head on.

Since Mark Warner has announced, where has he been? What has he done? Has he taken a stance on ANY of the major issues before Congress? How would he vote on important bills in the Senate? Nobody is asking Mark Warner questions because the established MSM desperatly wants him to win so they won't challenge him.

Luckily, despite everything else, our candidate is a street fighter and won't back down. If the DC Post and any ther publication won't ask Warner the tough questions, at least Gilmore will.
[emphasis mine]
"Our candidate is a street fighter and won't back down."

That is only one reason why I feel Jim Gilmore can and will win the U.S. Senate seat in November 2008. He is determined, he has laid the groundwork and begun raising money, he started talking last summer with GOP grassroots leaders and listened to what they had to say, he has a fire in his belly, and he wants it.

More than anything else ... he wants it. He is ready and willing to go up against the Mark Warner Machine.

Mark Warner won ONE campaign in the past -- has everyone forgotten he lost to John Warner? -- so his track record is 50%. But he is now going up against a seasoned veteran of the political game.

Jim Gilmore has served as an attorney, army intelligence specialist, prosecutor and state attorney general, and then was elected the 68th Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia. He has never stopped giving to his state and is willing to serve again.

My money is on Gilmore. Let the games begin!

New contributor

Hi. My name is Charlie Fugate and I'm the newest contributor at Bloggers 4 Jim Gilmore. I'm the owner of the blog Good Sense and I'm also a new convert to the Gilmore Senate campaign. I'm looking forward to contributing here in the months ahead.

Welcome to Bloggers 4 Jim Gilmore

Federal Govt. spending has gotten out of hand and the Bush tax cuts are set to expire. Virginians ask yourselves which of the two candidates for US Senator Gov. Jim Gilmore or Gov. Mark Warner can you trust to address these two issues?

Gov. Gilmore campaigned on and delivered the largest and longest lasting actual tax cut to Virginians in 1998.

Gov. Warner campaigned on never raising your taxes and broke that promise in 2004 signing into legislation the largest tax increase in the history of Virginia, even in a year that ended with a $300 Million dollar surplus.

Gov. Jim Gilmore needs to be elected to give control of the US Senate back to the Republicans to ensure the Bush Tax cuts get re-extended, and spending brought back under control. That along with a myriad of other issues to include the appointment of Supreme Court Judges make it imperative that we elect Jim Gilmore to represent Virginia in our US Senate.
