Stuarts Draft Fireman's Parade ~2008~

.

Augusta County GOP activist Chris Green and I decided to work the crowd at the Stuarts Draft Fireman's Parade and found many voters interested in talking about Jim Gilmore and his history regarding the car tax issue and drilling for known oil reserves off the virginia coast.

Stuarts Draft is part of the South River District which also includes Sherando and Lyndhurst and historically is a very strong conservative Republican area.

Even with getting to the parade early to work the parade lines we found that we became engaged with numerous people who wanted to talk issues about the upcoming Senate race in Virginia. Many times the conversation turned towards the energy issue and these voters noted that then Democratic Governor Mark Warner pulled out the "Veto-Pen" in 2005 when there was a bill on his desk to drill for known oil reserves off of the coast of Virginia...

I believe if we handed out tomatoes, that crowd would have pelted 'Mr 20 point' lead in the polls.. for his veto...

It was interesting how we only got about half way down the one side of the route. The crowd was engaged and interested in talking about the upcoming Senate race. Many Goodlatte stickers given out and balloons would have been a hit but limiting for we spent so much time talking issues.

I do like the two younger women who said that they were up on politics and what is going on in Virginia because they watch CNN everyday. They knew the talking points and were quick state that drilling for more of our own oil reserves was a bad idea and we need more "Alternative" sources of energy. Unfortunately they could not provide or explain any working examples of the "Alternative" energy sources they crave...

Drove by the parade route today on the way home from work and they were still standing there trying to come up with something...
